Odyssee am Untersee I / Odyssey at Untersee I

Multi-genre project with literature, theater, dance, singing, performance, and a journey across the lake

An interdisciplinary project with theatre, literature, music, dance and the visual arts

An epic about coming astray, forlornness, transformation and late happiness becomes a drama and an occasion to discover new traces in archaic myths … or to lay leave! Two old gentlemen, tired of the monotony of their retirement home, want to cross the lake once again. In order to make the excursion more exciting, they put themselves into the positions of Odysseus and his companions on their way home from the Trojan War: an odyssey across the seas with the most terrible events and greatest temptations along the way: Calypso saves the shipwrecked Odysseus and will not let him leave again for seven years.

He falls into the clutches of Kirke, who turns his companions into pigs and keeps them on her island for a whole year. He loses his mind over the siren’s songs, who approach his ship singing. On land, the man-eating cyclops Polyphemus looms, about whom he is warned by escaped companions. When he finally arrives in Ithaca, Odysseus must make his way to his faithful wife Penelope, by outwitting and defeating the army of parasitic suitors.
