TRY HARDER! – Performance as ritual and utopia

Into second exhibiton thematically involved takes in cooperation with the Phönix Theatre Steckborn a Performance Festival place. Under the titel TRY HARDER - Performance as ritual and utopia we ask, which rules apply for the time based art form of performance. Is the presented artistic action per se an individual ritual, which is only for insiders acceessible about its cultural place of presentation? In order to examine the central theme of rituals - namely the performative execution of actions - in the context of contemporary art, we invited artists whose oeuvre is characterized by performative works. Their contributions open up new perspectives on ritual actions and the signification of repetitive, ritualized gestures in everyday life and in art are questioned.
