Opening Labor Natur / Laboratory nature

In winter season, the Haus zur Glocke transforms into a laboratory and the artists into researchers. The processes and insights gained through the artistic craft, which raise new questions, are central. The works of the exhibitions are snapshots of the research processes that are continued in the reception of the works.

Visual artists and musicians of the exhibition:
Jane Ingram Allen, Santa Rosa CA, USA
Erwin Bossard, Lucerne
Rhona Mühlebach, Dettighofen/Glasgow, GB
Petra Ronner/Annette Schmucki, Zurich/Cormoret

In “Seeing the Other Side”, several suspended mixed techniques of handmade paper and card-like constructions are presented, which ask to be seen from both sides, each with a different angle and perspective. The seeing of the other side is a way of gaining understanding and empathy, qualities that are desperately needed in our current political environment and our everyday world. It’s a way of thinking cultivated in the hope of bringing more understanding and harmony into our world on all levels. Jane Ingram Allen

DES STEINESAMMLERS FARBENKABINETT – Again and again, even after years of searching fascinated by the everyday and inconspicuous stones and earths on the wayside and the intensity and diversity of the colors hidden therin. For the exhibition “Des Steinesammlers Farbenkabinett” (the stone collector’s color cabinet), I work exclusively with the colors of my collection of more than 200 earth pigments. It is an attempt to explore the range of variations within this collection of colors. Erwin Bossard

At the center of the work lies the meaning and role of emotions in contemporary times as well as the disappearance of Wilderness in the traditional sense. I am interested in how this disappearance initiated by mankind alters the relationship between humankind and landscape. Rhona Mühlebach

The performance Harmas – Die Branche des Alten (Harmas – the sector of the old) is a long-term project in which the two artists produce electronic music pieces through improvisation. Image traces of Julia Bodamer give the works its visual focus. The process is central when previous interim results are overwritten and reshaped. Text fragments from the “Erinnerungen eines Insektenforschers” (memories of an entomologist) by Jean-Henri Fabre, sounds reminiscent of insects, abstract figures from seemingly organic photographs all come together in a unique performance at the Haus zur Glocke. In the exhibition, the performance is extended by audio/sketch material illustrative of the process. Petra Ronner/Annette Schmucki (performance Sat, 5.12.20, 5 p.m.)
