Vom Wert des Überbleibsels / On the value of the remnant
29.09.–21.10.2018

Addressing the potential of the existing – be it construction material, be it the materials used in art or the work energy – is an effort that continues in the Haus zur Glocke. Various experts from the field of art were invited.

Times of Waste asks uncomfortable questions: Where does what remains go? Who pays the costs? Do we want endless consumption through perfect recycling? Its presentation in the Haus zur Glocke is part of a research project that is dedicated, among other things, to presenting those findings.

Tiziana Halbheer gets to the bottom of the slag from our household waste. After incineration, almost a quarter of a filled garbage bag remains as slag. Tiziana’s work examines and decomposes this waste of waste and revalues it.

LAST (Nico Lazúla and Ruedi Staub) work with Leftovers from the Lindenareal in Steckborn. The embroidery, built around 1900, will be demolished this year. Previously, LAST explored the interior and the surrounding area. Collected materials and objects, audio and video recordings will be presented in various media at the exhibition.

Erna Hürzeler works with materials from the embroidery industry. She combines old punch cards into new ‘fabrics’, awakens a thread unwinding machine from sleep and draws circles with it.

Mami Kiyoshi visited people in Steckborn this April, whose life stories she tries to capture in the form of a single picture. In New Reading Portraits, which she began in 2003, she depicts people in the midst of the things that make up their lives: “All possessions are part of the individual life story”, explains the photographer.
